My Ride

By Keri

For my 18th Birthday on Dec 11th ‘06, my mom, younger brother, and friend Matt, took me to see a masseuse. Yes, I know what you are thinking.. How does this pertain with riding? Will inevitably it does to a higher degree than initially expected. This masseuse was fabulous, but she came across things in my back that weren’t supposed to be there. I had a vertebrae out in my neck, which was causing me to have a lot of upper back tension and headaches. A while before I went to this masseuse I told my mom I had to go to the doctor about my back. That didn’t help, obviously. He was quick to prescribe me something… I told him I had discomfort while I was riding, I couldn’t sit deep in the saddle, I was stiff, because of my back. His explanation was; you’re probably not riding right. OK yes, I took that into consideration. But I disagreed with it. Not in a way which you all probably suspect, but because this problem had only aroused, and I had been doing event training 5 years prior to any back problems. My doctor, medical doctor, told me I couldn’t ride right, or wasn’t riding right? I’d leave that one up to my instructor..

I had, had a bad fall two years before that doctors visit. I do not, and to this day, do not know why I have a bad back now. That fall didn’t cause me any pain after the bruises. I was fine.

All I know is, here I am, with a bad back.
