Round Pen Pt 6-1

March 10, 2007

Welcome to the round pen! It was the greatest tool I could have ever be introduced to. Jim only helped me once, and from there I was confident in what I wanted to do, and what my new goals were going to be. I watched and read about joining up and that’s what I wanted to achieve. Not too long after that first time in the round pen, just my new horse and I, we made a successful join-up. The first time I wanted to work on moving her out, and I knew she wasn’t ready to join-up. Riding was put on hold for the time being, with my new horse. But I rode a Quarter Horse mare every now and then after I had worked with my new horse, to keep my riding going. That was another project in itself, working with that mare. I had fun doing both, and it was very rewarding.

My new horse joined up. It was one of the happiest moments of my life. And it wasn’t something that I just saw happening, I could feel it too. She would follow me around with her head lowered. Stand quietly with her head in my arms. The first time this ‘hot’ horse ever stood in complete harmony with me. We would do this a lot. It was the best bonding time one could ask for. I saw sides of her I knew existed, but never experienced. After join-up daily, we would spend the remainder of the day in each-others company. My next goal was to be able to move her about with my body, in larger places. Such as, the arena.
